The Farm Tour is this Sunday! I put reminders in the emails, but I felt it also deserved a dedicated email. So here are the basics for you to be aware of:
When: Sunday, September 14, 4:00-7:00pm
Where: The main farm at 3765 Meridian Rd, Leslie, MI see map
There will also be an optional side visit to our other farm, just south of the main farm- there will be signs up to help you find both locations.
What: Taste and vote on the tomato varieties and see where your food is grown. If all goes as planned there will be a hay-ride around the farm , tractor pulled, of course, and lots of opportunities to ask questions and explore. Bring the whole family, or even extended family if you’d like. Light snacks will be served starring all the raw tomatoes you’d like to try.
Reminders/Warnings: This is a working farm with lots of machinery, WEEDS and room to wander. Here’s a couple of tips when coming out to the farm:
-Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and that are comfortable, especially shoes
- if it rains a lot on Saturday you might want to pack boots too.
-Wear sunscreen if you’re prone to burn. Also if you come later, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring bug repellent.
-Take/bring allergy medication- the ragweed is horrible this year! Sorry.
- If you’re allergic to BEES be aware that we have 4 hives on farm, and you will find them everywhere- bring what you need to be safe
-Even though you’re all very good at this, just a reminder:
-Keep watch of children at all times- there’s a lot of things that look fun to play on, but aren’t meant for play.
- We’re expecting quite a few people, so if you can, please carpool
-If anyone would like to volunteer their time as a honorary farm helper (showing people where the bathroom is and encouraging others to vote on tomato varieties) let us know. We were thinking like 1/2 hour shifts or something- nothing too involved.
**If it’s raining Sunday afternoon, then the tour will probably be cancelled, and I’ll inform you by email on Saturday if that looks probable. But you’re still welcome to come out to taste tomatoes- it just won’t be as fun.
